One of the world’s greatest gateways is here at our doorstep in Atlanta. Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) surpassed Beijing as the busiest airport in the world in 2017, so  where you can go from here is yet another powerful factor in the value of Atlanta real estate, making Atlanta a wise choice to live and invest in.

Our direct flights from Atlanta include global hotbeds of business and economic development, but work is not the only reason people come and go from Atlanta. Recently, ATL offered us destinations that enrich us with the art and inspiration behind our broad-shouldered economy. In December, Delta Airlines added seasonal non-stop flights to Palm Springs, California. Long a magnet for movers and shakers from many industries, the vitality of Palm Springs today has much to do with its incomparable concentration of modern architecture and art.

Atlanta’s own stake in modern architecture and art extends from the iconic High Museum of Art to the towering Sovereign in Buckhead. Modern architecture also has outstanding examples among Atlanta homes. And in addition to its own landmarks of modern architecture, the spirit and influence of the Modern is all around us in Atlanta, so our connection with Palm Springs is more than just transportation.

The heroes of Hollywood came to Palm Springs and made it their getaway, as modern influences became more prominent. Cary Grant came for quiet relaxation. Kirk Douglas brought his young family. Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy found their hideaway here. Sinatra made his Palm Springs home into a Modern masterpiece. They brought with them a creative energy and a love of life that became the enduring spirit of Palm Springs. Thanks to the climate and the ongoing efforts of visionary residents, this mid-century refuge is now an exciting place to enjoy. Palm Springs focuses this local vitality ad worldwide attention through Modernism Week.

This year, Modernism week events extend from February 14-24 (the events outgrew one week years ago). Home tours, stage presentations, receptions, and parties – and even a quirky, fun lecture series called Modernism with a Twist – draw visitors from 19 countries and from every state. Even before Delta’s direct flights began, nearly 10% of Mod Week visitors came from the Southeast. The celebration grows fast each year because they have so much fun.

In fact, the “dress rehearsal” for Modernism Week, the October 17-22 Preview Week, has become an attraction of its own. Offering many of the same events and attractions, Preview Week has the advantage of an insider’s feel.
