Abby Derr was born and raised in Columbus, Georgia, and graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in History and a certificate in Music Business. After college, she was able to explore a handful of cities in the southeast to pursue her career in the music industry, from talent buying and management to music festivals and sales, affording her the opportunity to establish a diverse network base and variety of customer service-based skillsets.
After dedicating a portion of her career to supporting and vouching for her music-based clientele, it was only natural for her to segue into real estate, especially being the 4th generation of her family in the business. With a great-grandmother as an architect, interior designer, and developer, a grandmother who was a broker and had an extensive rental portfolio, two licensed agents as parents, and a sister with a very successful real estate business, Abby quickly followed suit.
After nearly a decade of selling land for developers, Abby joined Engel & Völkers to work alongside her sister, Missy Derr, to share the joy she brings to her clients by improving their lives through property ownership. With a family of talent backing her career transition, Abby also brings a unique skillset to the table that differentiates her from others in the industry – her specialization in Historic homes.
Moving into a 100-year-old home in historic West End has ushered in new opportunities to get involved with historic preservation within her neighborhood, as well as in Atlanta, and with her strong belief that history should be preserved, she has well educated herself on the historic standards properties must meet to remain in compliance with historic districts. Since joining, Abby now has a keen understanding of the neighborhood, county, and city regulations, code enforcement, and what it entails to work with other neighborhood groups to preserve our in-town, historic communities.
Abby is currently engaged to her college sweetheart, Mike, and has an energetic Border Collie named Herbie. When she’s not packing her bags to see the world, she enjoys exploring the diversity of Atlanta and constantly seeks out different cuisines along the Buford Highway corridor. Food has the amazing ability to connect people, and Abby appreciates “being able to take a glimpse into someone else’s life through their kitchens.”
With growth that continues to surpass national benchmarks, Engel & Völkers remains a proven leader in sales performance across global markets.
